From soup to nuts
     2015-August-6  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    From soup to nuts字面解释是“从汤到坚果”。这是什么意思呢?请看对话:

A: Helen has returned from her vacation.

B: Oh, really. Where did she travel to?

A: Spain. She seemed very happy, and told us everything about the trip, from soup to nuts.

Note: “From soup to nuts” is an American English idiom conveying the meaning of “from beginning to end.” For centuries, any foods served at the beginning and end of a meal stood for the entire thing: the start and finish and everything in between. Previous variations of this expression were “from eggs to apples” and “from pottage to cheese.” In the United States in the middle of the 20th century, the expression developed into “from soup to nuts.” We also use “from A to Z,” especially when refering to one’s knowledge.
