THE third round of Mission Hills Footgolf Championship closed in Shenzhen yesterday with the pair of Luan Chen and Pi Siwei winning the title.
Tan Ruyin, a member of the Chinese women’s national team, joined the tournament as a special guest.
Tan scored a 40-meter goal during China’s World Cup qualifying match against the Netherlands in June, helping China enter the last 16. Tan is also the only player from Guangdong to be selected into the national team.
The soccer player showed great interest in the new sport.
“I didn’t try this sport before. But I think I love it after I tried it,” Tan told a news conference in Shenzhen yesterday.
She said footgolf is harder to play than soccer, as the player has to pay attention to the different field situations.
“I will introduce the sport to my teammates in the national team and invite them to try the new sport,” she said.
Asked who she would choose to team up with if she had the opportunity to participate in the Footgolf World Cup, her answer was Spanish midfielder Xavier Hernandez.
Comprising five rounds, the Mission Hills Footgolf Championship will culminate with a Grand Final where the champions will be presented with the opportunity to compete in the Footgolf World Cup, to be held in Argentina in 2016.
