Meaning:

    “动” is short for “动车,” which means “express trains,” and “妹” is translated as “younger sister.” As Chinese often call an air hostess “空姐” (literally, “air sister”), they now call female express train conductors “express train sisters” as a token of endearment. Similar to air hostesses in China, these female conductors are often young, lovely and very polite.

    Example:

    A: 我昨天出差回来路上遇见一个动妹，长得真美。

    Wǒ zuótiān chūchāi huílái lùshàng yùjiàn yīgè dòngmèi, zhǎng de zhěn měi。

    I met an express train hostess on my business trip back. She’s gorgeous.

    B: 你要了她的电话吗？

    Nǐ yào le tā de diànhuà ma?

    Did you ask for her number?

    A: 她说自己很忙，一般没空接电话。

    Tā shuō zìjǐ hěn máng, yībān méikòng jiē diànhuà。

    She said she was always busy and had no time to answer phone calls.

    B: 她们是很忙，基本没空恋爱，所以一般都嫁给同事了。

    Tāmen shì hěn máng, jīběn méikòng liàn’ài, suǒyǐ yībān dōu jiàgěi tóngshì le。

    They are indeed very busy. They don’t even have the time to fall in love and often end up marrying their co-workers.
