SHENZHEN’S weather monitoring bureau announced that it will post more information about the weather and air quality online, along with emergency weather alerts and historical weather records dating back 35 years.
The website is only in the Chinese language at the moment. The bureau currently has no plans to provide an English version of the website, but might create one in the future, said Tang, a staff member at the bureau.
The bureau said Thursday that it will open the city’s meteorological data to the public to check the real-time weather as well as other services such as early warnings of disaster weather and air quality data.
The weather forecast and data will be available on the Shenzhen Meteorological Data System at http://data.szmb.gov.cn. The information will be updated as quickly as every six minutes.
According to the meteorological bureau, the website covers 19 categories with 75 different items of data in total. The Shenzhen meteorological database embedded on the website spans a period of 35 years.
The database includes ground observation data, including temperature, rainfall and visibility. It also offers extreme weather forecasts.
Residents can also check the weather at the main roads, highways and expressways in and around Guangdong Province. The traveling weather forecast covers weather at popular tourist sites in Shenzhen. The history of weather conditions during every national holiday period is also available.
All information can be downloaded after registering with an email address.
The bureau said the move to publish the meteorological data is to help residents in various fields such as preparing for extreme weather, arranging holidays and avoiding major accidents caused by unexpected weather. (Zhang Qian)
