WORK SAFETY CHIEF PROBED
     2015-August-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

YANG DONGLIANG, director of the State Administration of Work Safety, is under investigation by the Party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

Yang is suspected of “severe violation of discipline and law,” the CCDI announced in a statement yesterday, without providing further details.

A member of the 18th CPC Central Committee, Yang was one of the investigators at the Tianjin blast site before he was taken in.

According to Yang’s resume on the CCDI website, the 61-year-old served as vice mayor of Tianjin from 2001 to May 2012, before he was appointed director of the State Administration of Work Safety. Before 2001, he worked for the municipal government and State-owned firms in Tianjin as well as oil field firms in North China.

The State Council has established a team to investigate the cause of last week’s deadly explosions in Tianjin.

A statement issued by the State Council yesterday said the team will “give a responsible answer” to the Party and the people, and that those found to be responsible will be given serious punishment.

It said the team has already started its investigation in accordance with regulations on management of dangerous chemicals and on workplace safety, though it did not say when the team will announce any conclusions.

Headed by Executive Vice Minister of Public Security Yang Huanning, the team will “define the nature and gravity of the accident, and determine liability,” according to the statement.

The investigators will also advise on punishments.

According to a State Council decision, the Ministry of Public Security will oversee the investigation and officials from Central Government agencies and the Tianjin government, as well as prosecutors from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, will also be involved.

The team has also invited “relevant experts” to join, the State Council said.

Also yesterday, 10 officials of the Ruihai International Logistics, including the company’s chairman of board Yu Xuewei and vice chairman Dong Shexuan, have been detained by police for investigation of the devastating warehouse blasts, the Caijing magazine reported yesterday. (Xinhua)
