FISHING in the 21st century doesn’t have to involve a rod — something this man proved to be very much true when he used his drone to make a catch.
Farmer Derek Klingenberg from Kansas, the U.S., attached a hook, line and float to his quadcopter, and flew it out over a lake near his home.
He hovered above the water for some time and waited patiently for something to take his bait and get itself caught on the hook.
Surprisingly the loud sound of the drone, which whirs over the top of the water, appeared to do little in the way of disturbing the fish.
And only a short while after Klingenberg positioned the drone in one spot over the lake, a fish became attached to the hook and was pulled from the water.
In the clip, the fisherman flies the quadcopter into the air and shouts in delight as his catch emerges from the lake, attached to the line. Footage from the drone captures the exact moment the fish was caught in more detail, before Klingenberg steered it high into the air.
Later in the video Klingenberg flies his quadcopter over to the bank and announces that he has caught his first drone fish.
The tiny catch will certainly not break any records for its size, but the fisherman appears to be over the moon with the achievement nevertheless.
The clip concludes with Klingenberg posing for a selfie with his catch, which continues to dangle from the drone hovering in air.
Since being posted to YouTube, a number of people have taken to the video-sharing site to congratulate the fisherman.
