GERMANY’S IFA TO LAUNCH ELECTRONICS SHOW IN SZ

A GLOBAL IFA event will be held in Shenzhen in April next year, which will be called Consumer Electronics China (CE China). The original IFA trade show, the world’s largest consumer electronics exhibition, was first held in Berlin in 1924.

With an exhibition area of over 30,000 square meters, CE China will be held in the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center from April 18 to 22 next year. The annual exhibition will be China’s premier consumer electronics and home appliances trade show.

In a press conference held in Berlin on Monday, Messe Berlin, the organizer of IFA Berlin, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shenzhen’s Economy, Trade and Information Commission, nailing down Shenzhen as the host city of CE China.

“Both Berlin and Shenzhen are set to benefit enormously from closer trade cooperation and economic ties, and bringing a global IFA event to Shenzhen is a major step to achieve this goal,” said Guo Limin, director of the commission, who also attended the conference.

Guo said he expects more cooperation between the two cities, as Berlin has become a “city of creativity” known for its thriving IT and cultural industries and its digital economy, while Shenzhen is a hub of global electronic brands.

The Messe Berlin team has come to Shenzhen several times since last June to review the exhibition grounds and support facilities for the trade show.

Dr. Christian Goke, chief executive of Messe Berlin GmbH, said IFA’s success depends on its focus on brands, products and consumers, adding that the quality and the success of IFA can be replicated in Shenzhen.

“We observed the market very closely, and we are certain the right time is now,” Goke said.

CE China will allow electronic brands from both China and around the world to showcase their latest products on a global platform, as well as enhance Shenzhen’s international influence.

A number of Shenzhen-based companies such as Huawei, TCL, ZTE and Skyworth attended this year’s IFA show in Berlin that started last Friday and finishes today.
