Brides-to-be in endurance battle
     2015-September-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A PAIR of brides-to-be from Britain have battled it out in a competition to see who can stand in a window for the longest amount of time in the hopes of winning a £5,000 (US$7,686) prize.

Kate Holder and Tara Attis took their positions in the window Cornwall’s Budeiful Brides dress shop last weekend, with winner Holder staying put for an impressive two and half days.

Holder, of Holsworthy, Devon, declared victory over Attis, from St. Austell, Cornwall, on Monday after standing in a wedding dress for 58.5 hours — only taking a bathroom break once every four hours as per the rules.

The competition kicked off in the Bude bridal store at 11 a.m. Saturday morning, with both of the brides wearing dresses lent by the shop.

Holder, 27, who is due to marry in February, appeared in a silky white tulle-enhanced gown, which featured a strapless beaded corset.

Attis, 32, who will walk down the isle in 2017, wore a white dress which was gathered at the hip and boasted a pleated bodice.

The battling brides were required to model their wedding garments in the shop’s window space for as long as they could.

Toilet breaks were permitted every four hours but the women were required to sleep in the window — not the most comfortable of snoozing spots.

Attis brought some magazines to keep her occupied, and a copy of E.L. James’ saucy best seller, “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Competitor Holder hunkered down with her phone to keep her company and the pair sipped on cups of tea and flutes of Buck’s Fizz, and tucked into ice cream and takeaways.

“It was hard on our backs,” Holder said. “Both Tara and I are mothers so we had plenty to chat about, so the time went quickly, but it was mentally stressful, too.”(SD-Agencies)
