IN a bid to ease traffic congestion during the upcoming holidays, the Yantian District Government will give residents real-time traffic information via its official WeChat account, it was announced Tuesday.
Residents will be able to get traffic reports and tourist numbers if they follow the official WeChat account, “Beautiful Yantian (美好盐田).”
During holidays and weekends, tourist sites like Dameisha, Xiaomeisha and OCT East usually see huge waves of tourists, causing massive traffic jams on the city’s eastern expressways.
Yantian District will set up four monitoring sites in busy areas, including the Luofang Interchange in Luohu District and near the Airland Hotel in Yantian.
The monitoring sites will be staffed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the holidays, and pictures of the areas will be uploaded to WeChat along with traffic information, according to Yantian officials.
“Real-time traffic information will be available every hour during normal hours and we will update the information every 30 minutes during rush hours,” said an official.
The Dameisha Beach Park will continue to limit the daily number of tourists allowed to enter to 50,000. The park will be open to the public from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. the next morning.
A staff member from Dameisha Beach Park said the lack of real-time traffic and tourist number information led to terrible traffic jams during recent holiday periods.
Real-time information will also be available via the Shenzhen traffic police’s and the Yantian government’s Weibo accounts and video channels.
Yantian will stage its 14th tourism festival during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, putting on a show of jewelry and creative arts for tourists. (Zhang Qian)
