2 women found ‘living in airport for a year’
     2015-September-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TWO women have been discovered living in an airport — and it’s claimed they have been there for a whole year.

The German mother and daughter have been revealed as long-term residents of Larnaca Airport in Cyprus in a story that’s straight out of Hollywood film “The Terminal.”

In that movie, Viktor Navorski is forced to live in JFK International Airport in New York City when he is denied entry into the United States and at the same time cannot return to his native country due to a revolution.

The film is partially inspired by the 18-year-stay of Iranian refugee Mehran Karimi Nasseri in Terminal 1 of Charles de Gaulle International Airport, Paris from 1988 to 2006.

The women were deported from Israel when their visas expired, and since then have been using the airports facilities, including Wi-Fi, shopping areas, bathrooms and restaurants.

Adamos Aspris, Hermes Airport spokesman, said, “The airport has offered to help the Germans on numerous occasions but they have refused any aid and seem somewhat unwilling to change their circumstances.”

The German Embassy has offered help, but under European law there is no way to expel EU citizens from a country if they have not committed a crime.
