ACTOR Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new film “The Walk” opened this year’s New York Film Festival, with the Hollywood star walking the red carpet for the premiere.
The film is a biographical drama based on the 1974 stunt made by French high-wire artist Philippe Petit, as he walked between the former Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City.
The 34-year-old actor says the towers have played a leading role in the film.
“I think all of us, whether we were in New York or anywhere else in the world, when we see those two towers we think of the tragedy. But I think it’s also important to remember the good times, the beautiful memories we have. It’s like grieving for a lost loved one. You don’t want to only focus on their death, you want to remember their life, and that is what this movie does,” Gordon-Levitt said.
It is not the first film about the legendary artist. Previously, “Man on Fire,” a documentary based on Petit’s true story, won the Oscar Award for best documentary in 2008.
“The Walk” is scheduled to be released in limited theaters tomorrow, and the wider release will kick off in October.
Founded in 1963, the New York Film Festival aims to showcase the latest work from the world’s most esteemed filmmakers.
This year, the festival runs until Oct. 11.(SD-Agencies)
