CHINA became the only unbeaten team at the 2015 Asian Championship of men’s basketball by defeating Lebanon 90-72 in Changsha on Monday.
Former NBA player Yi Jilian had a game-high 19 points to lead the six Chinese players who had double-digit performance. Jasmon Youngblood and Bassel Bawji contributed 14 points for Lebanon respectively.
China’s captain Zhou Peng opened the game with a three-pointer. Yi had a steady performance with two consecutive slam dunks. The host was 24-17 up after the first quarter.
Chinese basketball legend Yao Ming, who sat among the audience, appeared on the big screen over the court, followed by image of Zhou Qi, China’s youngest center on the court. Zhou helped the team establish a 15-point advantage before halftime.
Lebanon hit five three-pointers in the third period for a 21-point performance. Chinese point guard Guo Ailun scored seven straight points at the end of the quarter.
Zhai Xiaochuan and Yi combined three slam dunks in a row to offer a feast for the audiences. China once led with 24 points before Bassel Bawji scored seven points to cut the deficit.
After Iran lost to the Philippines in the afternoon, China became the only unbeaten team at the 2015 Asian Championship.(Xinhua)
