Australian man survives on ants for six days
     2015-October-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A GRANDFATHER missing for six days in remote desert country in Western Australia’s Goldfields region has been miraculously found despite eating only black ants to survive.

Images shared by the West Australian Police on Tuesday show the emotional moment trackers discovered Reg Foggerdy, 62, lying motionless under a tree and using his backpack to rest his head.

The relived authorities gave the retired mining worker his first drink of water in almost a week, before transporting him to the nearest hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

“Our Officers complete training to prepare them for weeks like this and results like today make every second worth it,” Western Australia Police shared on their Facebook page Tuesday.

Foggerdy was last seen Oct. 7 heading to the Shooter’s Shack camp, about 170 km east of Laverton, while out hunting for a camel.

The grandfather was found alive Tuesday morning by trackers who had picked up and followed fresh tracks.

The Adelaide Advertiser reports that his wife Erlyn Foggerdy, 41, said one of the reasons why he was able to stay alive was down to him watching a jungle survivor show on Foxtel regularly.

Ms. Foggerdy said she heard the good news from her sister-in-law, Christine, on Tuesday morning.

“It was a big surprise for me. It’s been six long days so it’s a big miracle,” she said.

“He has been on other trips but this is the first time he has been missing.”

Superintendent Andy Gratewood from Kalgoorlie Police told ABC News that Foggerdy had seen out the last couple of days by eating black ants and resting under a tree.

“He had no water whatsoever for six days. He’s dehydrated and a bit delusional but he’s received first-aid treatment on the ground and he’s now sitting up and talking, so we’re looking very positive,” Superintendent Gratewood said.

Foggerdy had been hunting a camel when he became lost, Superintendent Greatwood explained.(SD-Agencies)
