    WORK on the western section of the Shenzhen Bay Coastal Belt, also known as Shenzhen Bay Park, officially kicked off Thursday.

    The 6.6-kilometer coastal belt project, which starts where the Zhongxin River meets the sea and stretches to the Shekou frontier police station, will be developed in four sections called D, E, F and G.

    According to the design, the D section, which runs about 850 meters, will continue the style of the eastern section of the park, with a 7-meter-wide walkway and 4-meter-wide bicycle lane separated by plants and grass.

    The E section will run about 760 meters to Shekou Hill. The F and G sections run 4,200 meters between the Peninsula housing estate and Shekou Port Park.

    Construction of the D section will mean the relocation of a temporary water treatment plant, removal of border police inspection station pavilions and land requisition from the Shenzhen Zhenhua Port Enterprise Co.

    The project will have six sightseeing parks and squares with different themes.

    Jiang Jianjun, Party chief of Nanshan District, hopes construction of the coastal belt forces authorities to speed up the cleaning up of Shenzhen Bay.

    The coastal belt runs 15.6 kilometers and the A, B and C sections, with a total length of 9 kilometers, were put into use in June 2011, the eve of the 26th Summer Universiade. The D section will be completed before the end of 2016 and the whole western section will be completed before the 2017 National Day holiday.
