DANNY BOYLE has vowed that his “Trainspotting” sequel will be worth the wait.
The “Steve Jobs” director has promised fans they won’t be disappointed by the sequel to the cult 1996 drama.
He told Vulture that he recently met with the original film’s producing team, screenwriter John Hodge and author Irvine Welsh in Edinburgh.
“You just knew,” he said. “It had this feeling about it, where it honors the original and it won’t disappoint people. It’s not the same film, but it can’t be, and we wouldn’t want it to be. And the actors all responded to it as I thought they would.”
Boyle also revealed that Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle, who are all due to return, had their own concerns about making a follow-up.
“The actors were very fearful about a sequel as well! Actors are a great barometer of whether something is worthwhile or not.Their filter is very, very strong, because they’re going to be the ones out there trying to make a script look truthful and believable. When it comes to doing another “Trainspotting,” they were very nervous, because for all of them, it’s a large part of their reputation and they feel very protective towards their character.”
“Trainspotting 2” is expected in 2016 to mark the original film’s 20th anniversary.
