‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ TV follow-up set at ABC
     2015-October-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ABC is teaming with the film producers behind the 1997 “My Best Friend’s Wedding” for a half-hour TV sequel series to the film, The Hollywood Reporter reported. ABC has handed out a script plus penalty for the single-camera half-hour comedy.

Academy Award winner Ron Bass (“Rain Man”) — who penned the feature — will write the script alongside Jessica Amento. Bass and the film’s Jerry Zucker and Janet Zucker will executive-produce alongside Mike Menchel. The comedy will be produced via Sony Pictures Television and Adam Sandler and Doug Robinson’s studio-based Happy Madison Television (“The Goldbergs”).

ABC’s “Wedding” picks up where the movie left off and centers on Julianne Potter (originally played by Julia Roberts) navigating her life in New York City, with best friend George (played by Rupert Everett in the movie) as her guide.

“Wedding” becomes the latest intellectual property to get the reboot treatment this development season. Key to the process is having the original producers involved, which is the case here. The film, produced by Sony’s TriStar Pictures, grossed nearly US$300 million worldwide with a budget of US$38 million.

“Wedding” becomes ABC’s latest reboot in the works this season. The network is also developing a female-fronted take on “Fantasy Island.” Remakes continue to be in high demand again this development season.(SD-Agencies)
