Mother breaks marathon baby carriage record
     2015-October-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MOTHER has claimed a world record for running a marathon whilst pushing a baby carriage.

Jessica Bruce, 32, completed the Abingdon Marathon with her 7-month-old son Daniel in a pushchair in three hours, 17 minutes and 52 seconds.

Her husband, David, ran alongside them and even managed to give the baby a bottle of milk as they went.

Bruce, from Headington, Oxford, said, “Daniel was absolutely brilliant. He slept until about 20 miles (32 km) and was then just looking around.

“We had a nappy change and a puncture repair kit with us but we didn’t need it. We didn’t stop.”

The current Guinness World Record for the fastest female marathon pushing a baby carriage is three hours, 31 minutes and 45 seconds.

Bruce said she was just awaiting confirmation of her record from Guinness.

She said that although the Abingdon route was relatively flat, she did most of her training on hilly courses as pushing a carriage whilst running was “very tiring.”

“You notice any kind of incline,” she added.

Bruce said she had always been a keen runner, once completing a marathon in two hours and 58 minutes, and did not want to give it up when her son was born.

Her husband, whom she met at the Oxford University cross country club, works long hours and so she decided to purchase a Bugaboo Runner, which cost around £600 (US$926), so she could keep up the hobby.
