FOR the third time this year, Chinese star Lin Dan was eliminated in the opening round of a super series tournament.
The latest one came from the French Open as he was beaten by unseeded H.S. Prannoy of India after three games in Paris on Wednesday.
The two-time Olympic men’s singles champion took the first game 21-14, but it was already the best the third seed could offer as the Indian shuttler bounced back with two games 21-11, 21-17 to take the tie.
Lin also lost in the first stage of the Indonesia and Australian Opens.
Prannoy will now meet Ng Ka-long of Chinese Hong Kong in the second round after the latter overcame Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 21-9, 14-21, 21-11.
Another Hong Kong player, Wong Wing-ki also made it to the second stage following a 21-14, 21-15 win over Wang Tzu-wei of Chinese Taiwan. He will now meet another Taiwanese Chou Tien-chen. But the two top Hong Kong’s players, Hu Yun and Wei nan, both crashed out of the tournament. (SD-Agencies)
