Town celebrates Xmas early for boy
     2015-October-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AN entire town in Canada has poured their hearts into making a terminally ill boy’s wish come true by celebrating Christmas in October — because he might not live until December.

Evan Leversage, 7, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at just 2-years-old that has left him blind in one eye.

Doctors recently told his mother, Nicole Wellwood, that her son may not live much longer, but instead of feeling down she created a bucket list of beautiful treats for her ailing son.

And when residents of her small town in St. George, Ontario, found out what she was trying to do for her son, they decided that the entire town should organize Christmas in October for the boy.

The truly touching gesture has led the town to decorate shops with Christmas decorations and hang up signs that read “Happy Birthday Evan!”

More than 6,000 people attended a 25-float parade and celebration Saturday, which also included a special visit from Santa Claus.

The Ontario Provincial Police led the procession and a movie production company provided artificial snow, CTVNews.com reported.

Evan’s mother told CTVNews.com, “It’s hard to explain to a 7-year-old. My best response has been, you have a lot of people that love you. That’s the truth.”

She described how people have expressed their support for Evan as he battles his illness.

And, on social media, users have begun using the hashtag #LightsonForEvan to help spread the word further.

Wellwood’s cousin created a GoFundMe page to help the family pay for medical bills. The page had an original goal of US$1,500 and has since surpassed US$18,000, as of yesterday.

“Nikki is in survival mode and is working hard to make the most of the present and immediate future with Evan and his brothers,” the page said.

“It’s hard for her to think of the future. Funds will go directly toward helping Nikki with food and living expenses for her and the boys over the next few months.”(SD-Agencies)
