China Cup regatta set to make splash this weekend

    The 9th China Cup International Regatta will be held Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at East Shenzhen’s Daya Bay.

    Themed “Be the Captain,” the annual event will include 111 sailing teams from 36 countries and regions, such as Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Japan, Germany and Canada.

    Forums and lectures on marine culture, entertaining performances, pool parties and an oil painting exhibition will be held in tandem with the race. Most events will be held at Shenzhen Marine Sports Base near Yangmeikeng Beach. An English-language schedule can be found at http://www.chncup.com/?action=content&method=index&id=36. The organizers will provide free shuttle buses for viewers who reserve bus seats and race tickets through the China Cup’s official WeChat: chncup-com.

    Inaugurated in 2007, the China Cup International Regatta is a high-profile sailing race in Asia, promoting the sport of sailing and nautical tourism in China. Organized by the General Administration of Sport of China, the regatta attracts over 100 boats with 1,000 sailors from more than 30 countries and regions to compete in the event, gaining wide attention from the sailing community and international media.

    The event is also supported by the Shenzhen Marine Sports Base, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the Shenzhen Vanke Longcheer Yacht Club.
