Charity organization A Heart for China is going to take both expatriate and Chinese volunteers to the Huayang Special School this Saturday afternoon.
Volunteers will dress up in wizard hats and devil horns to help cheer up the special children at Huayang Special School where most of the kids are physically or intellectually handicapped. Though the organization has visited the school many times, they want to take something special to the kids on this special day.
“These kids may never have experienced something like this and they need a distraction. That’s why bright colors, music and dancing are wonderful and magical things for them,” said Ronny Verdoodt, a Belgian who runs the organization.
Volunteers will spend some time with over 140 children who must stay in bed or at the school for most of their lives. Donations such as cookies, soy milk or cow milk in 250ml packaging are welcome.
An experienced makeup artist will also attend the event to help transform the kids into scary monsters and pretty fairies.
To join this special Halloween event, participants need to pay 50 yuan. The expense includes a Halloween prop, a drink and bus fare.
Time: Meet at Baishilong Metro Station Exit C, at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 31 to take a bus to the school.(Zhang Qian)
