Dutch jazz band Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw will give a show next week.
The 18 members , conducted by Henk Meutgeert, are the most talented jazz musicians in the Netherlands. The band regularly performs with guest jazz artists of the highest standards. The orchestra was founded in 1996 as the New Concert Big Band. In 1999, the band swiftly moved to center stage under an arrangement with Amsterdam’s prestigious Concertgebouw to become the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw initiates and participates in extraordinary projects with other ensembles and art forms. The orchestra co-produced an All-American Program with Het Gelders Orkest and has performed pieces by Gershwin and Ellington and music written by Henk Meutgeert.
In 2007, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw started its own label, JOC Records, and recorded its first CD. With this collection, the band strived to enhance the focus on Dutch jazz on the international scene. In 2007, the album “Riffs ‘n Rhythms” was released, followed in 2008 by “Silk Rush,” a recording of music by Jesse van Ruller. In April 2010, the CD “Blues for the Date” with the music of pianist Peter Beets was released.
