Halloween weekend scares off moviegoers
     2015-November-3  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

“THE Martian” and “Goosebumps” have come out as the early winners of a slow Halloween weekend at the North American box office.

At the same time, three new films, “Burnt,” “Our Brand Is Crisis” and “Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse” had disappointing starts.

“The Martian,” starring Matt Damon, continues to run hot, pulling in US$3.5 million Friday. “The Martian” is on track to finish the weekend with US$10.5 million. That would bring its box office receipts to around US$180 million.

Sony’s “Goosebumps” racked up US$3 million in ticket sales Friday. It’s expected to end the weekend with a US$9 million gross, taking its box office totals to around US$56 million.

Disney’s “Bridge of Spies” finished 4th Friday with US$2.5 million.

Sony’s “Hotel Transylvania 2” brought in US$1.8 million, as did the Weinstein Company’s “Burnt.”
