Roman Kim’s violin recital
     2015-November-5  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Russian violinist Roman Kim will play “Devil’s Trill,” “Cantabile Op. 17 for Violin and Piano,” “God Save the King,” “La Campanella,” “Sonata in D Minor, Op. 27, No. 3,” “Romance in B Major” and “La Traviata.”

Kim is one of the most captivating young soloists today. Kim has delighted audiences in Germany, Spain, Italy and Israel with his breathtaking virtuosity, artistic enthusiasm and unrestrained energy. He rediscovers the repertory of the Romantic Era.

Kim is artistically focused on the major works by Glazunov, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Brahms and Mendelssohn. But his most important inspiration is the life and work of legendary violinist Paganini. Following his idol, he not only energizes original compositions but also arranges complicated works of music literature for his instrument. Bach’s famous “Air,” a polyphonic solo piece in Kim’s transcription, was a huge success on the Internet and will be published by the renowned music publisher Baerenreiter.

Jimi Hendrix is another inspiration for Kim. Hendrix encourages Kim to look beyond stylistic horizons and search for unheard sounds by employing unconventional means. As a composer, Kim does not submit to established schools and writes his music as he feels it. Among his compositions are “Three Romances for Violin and Piano,” “I Brindisi” and transcriptions of famous compositions like Bach’s “Badinerie” and “Air.”

Kim received his first violin lessons at the age of 5, and at the age of 7 he won first prizes in national competitions, which led him to the Central Music School in Moscow in 2000. In 2012, he won first prize at the 28th international music competition Valsesia Musica. As a winner of the Cologne International Music Competition (2011), he played with the WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne.

The Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben gives Kim the opportunity to play a violin by Giovanni Battista Zanoli (1750, Verona). In January 2013, Kim was heard during a one-hour radio broadcast on WDR 3 TonArt. In halls such as the Philharmonie in Cologne and Hamburg Laeiszhalle, he played with the Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra, the New South Westphalian Philharmonic and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra.
