The renowned drummer-composer Andrea Marcelli and his band mates, Nicolas Bouloukos and Sylvain Gagnon, will give a concert at the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen (ISNS) at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10.
The evening’s program includes Marcelli’s own compositions as well as famous tunes by Italian and international composers.
Marcelli has extensively performed on five continents, recorded with such labels as Verve/PolyGram and played with musicians such as Wayne Shorter, David Liebman, Bob Mintzer, Allan Holdsworth, Markus Stockhausen, Eddie Gomez, Mike Stern, Don Menza and others. About 200 of his compositions have been recorded and two of them are included in both “The European Real Book” and “The Digital Real Book Part 2.”
Bouloukos is from New York City and studied at The Albany Academy and Princeton University. He is the founder and conductor of the Shanghai Youth Jazz Orchestra and has played with great musicians like Toninho Horta, DeeDee Bridgewater and many others. He is currently residing in Shenzhen.
Gagnon, from Vancouver, Canada but residing in Hong Kong, is a virtuoso of jazz bass playing. He has performed internationally with musicians such as Joey Calderazzo, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Tiger Okoshi, Scott Hamilton, Olivia Newton-John and many more.
