Chen Danqing's paintings on display
     2015-November-9  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Twenty pastel and oil paintings created by Chinese-American artist Chen Danqing are on display at Art 1618 in Nanshan District.

Chen is an artist, writer and art critic. He was born in Shanghai in 1953 and graduated from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts. He moved to the United States in the 1980s.

Chen was well known for his realist paintings, garnering critical acclaim for his portraits of Tibetans in the 1970s. Around 1976, he was able to visit Tibet, which inspired him to make a number of paintings about ethnic minorities. His Tibetan paintings are recognized as Chinese realist paintings and developed from European tradition.
