Curiosity killed the cat
     2015-November-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    这句话的字面解释是“好奇害死猫”,这是什么意思呢?请看对话:

A: I’ve heard rumors that Mary’s husband fled the country after several of his close friends came under police investigation.

B: You had better not ask Mary about her husband. You know, curiosity killed the cat.

Note: This idiom is used for warning someone that something dangerous or harmful could happen to them because they are too interested in things that do not concern them. The original form of the proverb was “Care killed the cat.” In this instance, “care” was defined as “worry” or “sorrow.” The earliest printed reference to the original proverb is attributed to the British playwright Ben Jonson in his 1598 play “Every Man in His Humor.” The origin of the modern variation is unknown. The earliest known printed reference appeared in James Allan Mair’s 1873 collection of proverbs.
