    Events canceled

THE Foo Fighters, Natalie Portman, U2 and other entertainers have canceled events in Paris following deadly terrorist attacks in the city.

The Foo Fighters canceled the remaining dates of their European tour, including a planned show in Paris on Monday. Film distributor Mars said Saturday it had canceled promotional appearances for the film “Jane Got a Gun” starring Portman. U2 has postponed its Saturday night concert. The band said in a statement that it is resolved to go ahead with the concert “at an appropriate time.”

    First Oscars

TIGHT security following the Paris terror attacks was in effect at Saturday night’s 7th annual Governors Awards, where Spike Lee, Gena Rowlands and Debbie Reynolds received the first Oscars of Hollywood’s award season.

Lee and Rowlands accepted Oscars for career achievement. Reynolds received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in recognition of her decades-long commitment to raising awareness of mental health issues.

    Singer arrested

CHINESE singer Yin Xiangjie was arrested by Beijing police for drug offences Thursday. The 46-year-old singer was caught in an apartment in Beijing’s Chao-yang District. A few grams of drugs, and drug-taking equipment were found at the scene. His drug urine test also proved positive. He has confessed to illegally possessing and using drugs.

Yin was detained for possessing drugs in December last year and was only discharged from prison this July. The singer shot to fame after singing “Boat Tracker’s Love” in 1993, featuring fellow singer Yu Wenhua.

    New guest

CHINESE pop singer Tiger Hu has revealed that he is set to guest-star in the upcoming season of the CBS sitcom “2 Broke Girls.”

Hu has also posted a photo on his Sina Weibo account which he took with Beth Behrs (R), who plays Caroline Channing in the sitcom. There has been no official confirmation but netizens suggest he could play a role connected with the restaurant owner Han Lee in the series. Hu gained public recognition after the release of his first album in 1999. The album won Hu many “best new artist” awards in China and overseas, and his song “The Monk” made the top 10 of several charts. The singer has so far released five albums. (SD-Agencies)
