Renowned Italian drummer-composer Andrea Marcelli will collaborate with pianist Nicholas Bouloukos for a show Saturday at Penny Black.
Marcelli has extensively performed on five continents, recorded with such labels as Verve/PolyGram and played with musicians such as Wayne Shorter, David Liebman, Bob Mintzer, Allan Holdsworth, Markus Stockhausen, Eddie Gomez, Mike Stern, Don Menza and others. About 200 of his compositions have been recorded and two of them are included in both “The European Real Book” and “The Digital Real Book Part 2.”
Bouloukos is from New York City and studied at The Albany Academy and Princeton University. He is the founder and conductor of the Shanghai Youth Jazz Orchestra. The former conductor of the JZ Big Band has worked with dozens of jazz masters, including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Donald Byrd, Stanley Jordan, Antonio Hart, and Eddie Palmieri, to name but a few. He has also performed with and arranged for rock and pop musicians like Cui Jian and Laura Fygi. His band GrecoNubian is gaining popularity in Asia.
