Public invited to report traffic violations
     2015-November-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

MORE than 600 reports about traffic violations by residents via microblog from Oct. 23 to Nov. 6 have been verified by the traffic police authority, Chinese-language media reported yesterday.

The 637 violations, including the illegal uses of emergency lanes across the city, generated a total of 1.65 million yuan (US$258,621) in fines, the reports said, citing the traffic police authority.

Of all 637 verified violations, 86 percent of them, or 548, were illegal use of emergency lanes, traffic police said on their official microblog. The rest of the violations were for illegally occupying restricted lanes, driving in bus lanes and crossing solid lines.

Fulong Road, Jihe Expressway, the Xiangmi Flyover of Beihuan Boulevard and the Shenhai (Shenyang-Haikou) Expressway have seen the most violations of private vehicles using emergency lanes illegally.

Residents can report violations to the traffic police’s WeChat account 深圳交警 and microgblog 深圳交警 by sending photos with detailed descriptions of the time and place of violations within 72 hours. The photos must clearly show the violators’ vehicles.

Drivers will be fined 3,000 yuan and have six penalty points added to their driver’s license for each violation for illegally using emergency lanes. For each verified report, a whistleblower will get 100 yuan. The most that can be earned in one month is 500 yuan.

Residents are also encouraged to report vehicles that fail to give way to pedestrians at intersections without traffic lights.
