Taiwanese pop singer A-Mei will give a solo concert Saturday night at the stadium of Shenzhen Bay Sports Center while mainland pop/folk singer Li Jian will also give a show on the same night in the gymnasium at the center.
Born as Amit Kulilay in the rugged mountains of eastern Taiwan, A-Mei was exposed to tribal music during her childhood. A-Mei first connected to the entertainment business by joining the televised “Five Lights Singing Contest” in 1992. She made it all the way through to the finals but eventually lost in the final round. She has been called a diva of the Mandarin pop music scene. She has won numerous music awards and is popular within the Mandarin-speaking world.
Li is a folk singer. While studying at Tsinghua University between 1994 and 1998, Li was recognized by his peers for his musical talent, especially his guitar virtuosity. Campus ballads were in vogue at that time, when Li came across senior alumni Lu Gengxu, who shared the same musical aspirations. Then in March 2001, they established the pop duo Shui Mu Nian Hua and began their exploration of the world of music.
In September 2001, the duo released their debut album “Having You in My Life All Along,” which catapulted them to stardom almost overnight. They won a cult following for their innocent voices and unvarnished style.
After the two prodigies split due to differences in 2002, Li went on to pursue his own solo career. In August 2003, Li released his own debut album “Evanescence of Life.” All the numbers were composed and arranged by Li himself. Following the success, Li released his second album “Coming for You” in January 2005 and third album “Missing You” in 2007. The ballad singer’s poetic lyrics stirred his fans’ nostalgia for the innocence of their own campus days. To date, he has produced eight albums. He is most well-known for his song “Legend” which became a huge hit.
Li participated in the third season of the celebrity singing competition “I Am a Singer.” He managed to come in second. Li was also selected to be a team advisor for “The Voice of China” (Season 4), along with A-Mei, G.E.M. and JJ Lin.
