‘Frankenstein’ by TNT
     2015-November-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TNT Theater will present English-language play “Frankenstein” in Shenzhen.

“Frankenstein” is one of the most potent modern myths, which is explored through a Gothic comedy that mixes popular entertainment with an exploration of the darker themes within the myth. Pressing questions like “Is human cloning or stem cell research moral?” are explored through a drama that switches from high comedy to spine-tingling terror, from love story to horror story, and from thriller to tragedy as the Creature is revealed in all his lonely suffering. Highly visual, fast-paced and furious, “Frankenstein” has a full electronic score by noted composer Paul Flush that operates more in the manner of film than theater.

TNT revived the internationally acclaimed production in 2014. The play is directed by Paul Stebbings, who has explored this style of serious Gothic comedy in productions such as “The Murder of Sherlock Holmes,” “Brave New World,” “A Christmas Carol,” “The Wave” and “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” which were all hugely successful, winning prizes at the Edinburgh Festival and performed in over 40 countries in Europe and Asia. “Frankenstein” incorporates music and sound effects that weave through the drama.

The production appeals to a wide audience. This powerful work reveals why the name “Frankenstein” resonates in the modern world like few others.
