THIRTY-FIVE food items have been found to be of substandard quality in a citywide food inspection by the municipal food and drug administration Saturday, local Chinese-language media reported yesterday.
The foods can’t legally be sold and are unsafe for human consumption, the food administration said after releasing the inspection results.
A type of rice sold at a Vanguard supermarket in Luohu District was found to contain excessive cadmium that would harm internal organs and may cause intoxication, media reports said.
Soybean oil produced Sept. 20 by the Shenzhen-based Doushi Co. was found to have too much fatty acid.
Food for children was also on the list. A nutrition powder manufactured Aug. 17 by the Nanchang Jinli Health Industry Co. in Jiangxi Province was found to contain harmful fat. The powder was sold at a maternity shop named Muyinglemu in Nanshan District.
The food failed to meet five major indexes: food additives and microorganisms, chemical contamination, food contaminants or heavy metals. (Zhang Qian)
