    Doozy

    不一般的

    这个词是什么意思?请看对话:

A: Did you watch the new Matt Damon movie?

    B: "The Martian," right? It's a doozy.

Note: This slang term means "something outstanding." Etymologists are fairly sure that it came from the flower named daisy, an English slang, from the 18th century on, for something that was particularly appealing or excellent. It might also have been influenced by the name of the Italian actress Eleonora Duse, who first appeared in New York in 1893. Something "Dusey" was clearly excellent of its kind, and it is likely that it and daisy became amalgamated in people's minds to create a new term, which was then reinforced by Duesenberg, an expensive, classy make of automobile in the 1920s and 1930s.
