Three shows at b10 Live
     2015-December-7  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Taiwanese band Cicada will give a show tomorrow night at B10 Live, U.S. jazz band Diallo-Zigmund-Ostle will perform Wednesday and American musician Chris Garneau will take the stage Friday.

Cicada formed in 2009 and consists of violin, cello, acoustic guitar and piano players. The band is called Cicada because people are aware of a cicada’s presence by its sound instead of its form.

Diallo-Zigmund-Ostle consists of Claude Diallo (piano), Eliot Zigmund (drum) and Curtis Ostle (double bass).

Zigmund is a jazz drummer who has worked extensively as a session musician. He played with Don Friedman from 1979 to 1984 and then joined a trio with Michel Petrucciani until the late 1980s.

Ostle is known for his warm sound, lyrical solos, and strong rhythmic sense. In 2009-2010 Ostle performed with the house band for the television show “Asia Uncut” with Jon Niermann, the only Asia-wide English-language nighttime talk show featuring both Western and Asian celebrities, musicians and comedians. The show, which concluded its second season in March 2010, aired in 53 countries throughout Asia and the Middle East and reached approximately 120 million viewers.

Diallo’s accolades include 2009 finalist at the Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition and he was the 2008 and 2011 recipient of the Cultural Achievement Award from his hometown of St. Gallen.

Diallo’s trio, Claude Diallo Situation, was founded in April 2007 with Swiss drummer Massimo Buonanno and French electric bassist Laurent Salzard. Some of the tour’s highlights were a performance at the Taipei International Jazz Festival and a VIP gala dinner performance for the Swiss President, Doris Leuthard, in Singapore.

Garneau is an American singer-songwriter and his sound combines elements of folk, Americana and pop. Since releasing his debut album, “Music for Tourists,” Garneau has toured throughout the United States, Canada, Brazil, Europe and Asia. Garneau cites Jeff Buckley, Nina Simone, Nico and Chan Marshall as influences.

    Time: 8:30 p.m., Dec. 8 (Cicada), 9 (Diallo-Zigmund-Ostle), 11 (Chris Garneau)

Tickets: 60-100 yuan (Cicada), 60-80 yuan (Diallo-Zigmund-Ostle), 120-150 yuan (Chris Garneau)
