Concert to pay tribute to ‘Young and Dangerous’
     2015-December-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The five main actors of 1996 Hong Kong crime film series “Young and Dangerous,” Jordan Chan, Ekin Cheng, Chin Kar-lok, Jerry Lam and Michael Tse, will collaborate for a concert to commemorate the hit movie.

The movie is about a group of triad members, detailing their adventures and dangers in Hong Kong triad society. Based on a popular comic book series named “Teddy Boy,” the film contributed a lot to the public image of triads and was condemned by certain quarters as glorifying secret triad societies. However, it was a huge success and led to nine sequels and spinoffs before the series concluded in 2000. Its main actors and actresses have also become major stars in their own right.

Cheng had a successful music career. Through the course of his career, he has had several hits, though many criticize Cheng for not having a voice capable of singing harder or higher-noted songs. His most popular songs were released during his “Young and Dangerous” years. The theme song for “Young and Dangerous,” “Age of Friendship,” is considered his best work.

Chan is known for bringing a hip-hop flavor to Cantopop. Since 2002, he has rapped and added hip-hop beats to his music, earning him new fans. He continues to incorporate R&B and hip-hop sounds into his music today. He was the first singer to include Hakka verses in a Mandarin song, “Heartless You,” in 2003.
