The fourth Baoqingfu restaurant in Shenzhen recently opened in Nanshan District.
Featuring Hunan and Cantonese cuisine, the restaurant chain has been in business for 13 years. The name Baoqingfu refers to Shaoyang City in Hunan Province, which was a county during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
Bucking the stereotype that Hunan dishes are only good enough to be served from cheap food stalls along the street, Baoqingfu restaurants have been improving the quality and taste of Hunan cuisine by using the best ingredients they can find. With more than 1,000 recipes for unique Hunan dishes, Baoqingfu reshuffles their menu every few months, using seasonal ingredients.
With half of the ingredients used in the dishes transported from Shaoyang and the rural area around the city, the restaurant promises the most authentic Hunan flavor at affordable prices.
A spicy freshwater soft-shell turtle stew satisfies most diners’ taste buds and appetites, with the tender texture of the turtle given an exciting spicy flavor. With four different chili sauces, the traditional Cantonese cured meat dish becomes a totally new experience. Other must-try dishes include steamed brown-spot grouper, roasted pigeon and boiled sea shrimp served with a special sauce. Although many other restaurants also serve siumai — a steamed rice and pork dumpling popular in many parts of China — Baoqingfu’s insistence on using quality ingredients ensures a fresh taste.
The newly opened restaurant is offering a 42 percent discount for its morning tea dishes before 11 a.m. and a 12 percent discount after 11 a.m. Those who spend more than 568 yuan (US$88.4) on a meal will receive a free bottle of Jiugui liquor worth 528 yuan. There is a buy-one-get-one-free deal for many drink purchases. Ask your server for details.
