SEPARATE tracks for walkers and bicycle riders will be built along the west section of the Shenzhen Bay Coastal Belt, west to the Shenzhen Bay Park, according to plans released by the construction headquarters.
The construction of the new 6.6-km costal walking and biking area began in October and is scheduled to be completed before October 2017.
According to the plan, a barrier will separate the two tracks. The paths will run beside piers and sightseeing areas. The belt is about 30 meters wide on average.
A 10-kilometer-long section of the Shenzhen Bay Park was put into use in June 2011. The west section of the belt will be added.
The new section starts from where the Zhongxin River meets the sea and stretches westward to the Shekou frontier police station, running about 5,800 meters all together. The new section will provide access to Shekou Hill, the Peninsula housing estate and Shekou Port Park.
Construction will mean the relocation of a temporary water treatment plant, removal of a police inspection station pavilion and land requisition from the Shenzhen Zhenhua Port Enterprise Co.
Before completion of the belt, a pollution treatment station at Shenzhen Bay is expected to be completed. The city’s environmental authority completed the water treatment facilities at Shenwan No. 1 Road, Dongbin Road and Zhongxin River.
Another four facilities at the Dashahe River, Rose Garden housing estate and Dongbin South Road will be put into use before the end of the year.
There are 39 sewage pipes that discharge 109,700 cubic meters of wastewater into Shenzhen Bay daily, seriously polluting the area. (Han Ximin)
