Runaway reindeer causes mayhem
     2015-December-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

OPEN-MOUTHED onlookers could barely believe their eyes when a reindeer flew down a suburban street — but not in the way you would think.

Bjorn the reindeer took off from the Carlton Hill Tesco store in Nottingham after he was startled by a car’s horn, leaving traffic chaos in his wake.

The animal had been part of a Christmas event, alongside another reindeer called Thor and a Santa’s sleigh, when he galloped off and narrowly missed a bus in the process.

Thankfully a group ran after the spooked animal and caught him shortly afterwards.

Gemma Green saw Bjorn sprint past her house and said: “I was putting some Christmas cards up in the window and just saw it come charging down the street.

“Then I saw a group of people following it.

“It was quite strange. It’s like the scene from Arthur Christmas where Santa loses his reindeer. I thought I was seeing things at first.

‘My partner was out walking the dog and he had to move out the way because it came charging past him.”

Eyewitness Tony Morris said: “I think someone beeped their horn and it startled the reindeer, then it just started running away.

“It’s gone up Carlton Hill and is just running around looking startled. It’s just shocked a bus driver and was nearly hit by a bus.”

Lisa Head, from Carlton, Nottingham, had taken her three young children to the event.

She said: “The children were quite upset after it had run off.”

“I had to move out of the way and get my children safe. It ran around the car park and then across the front of the shop and up Carlton Hill. It was chaos.”
