‘Mojin: The Lost Legend’ breaks Chinese box office records
     2015-December-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Chinese adventure fantasy film “Mojin: The Lost Legend” has earned over 400 million yuan (US$62.5 million) just two days after its release, breaking three records in China’s box office history.

The film is recognized as the highest-grossing domestic 3D film for a midnight screening.

It earned a record 171 million yuan in ticket sales on the opening day, and surpassed “Monster Hunt” to become the single-day box office champion.

Adapted from the popular adventure novel series “Ghost Blows Out the Light,” or “Gui Chui Deng” in Chinese, the film features the adventure of a trio of legendary grave robbers.

Director Wu Ershan said he designed triple obstructions in the treasure-hunt film to make it more appealing to audiences.

“First there is external resistance, such as tomb gimmicks and mysterious conundrums, which can display the confrontation between humans and the surrounding environment. Second is the resistance from antagonists, who pursue the same goal as the hero but share totally different values. Third, it’s the inner struggle and self-contradiction of the hero. These three barriers together can make the film more rich and appealing.”

Produced by Chen Kuo-fu, the film features some of China’s A-list stars, including Chen Kun, Huang Bo, Xia Yu, Liu Xiaoqing, Shu Qi and Angelababy.
