AFTER being trapped for 67 hours, Tian Zeming, a 21-year-old man from Chongqing, was lifted out of the house he was trapped in below 8 meters of mud. Tian had signaled rescuers by slamming rocks together.

A rescuer identified as He Yong kept Tian talking before he was pulled out.

“I even joked with Tian, asking him to buy us drinks after we got him out,” said He. “He said yes right away which indicated he was doing alright.”

Rescuers found some melon seed shells and the leftovers of a pomelo for two and a half days.

Tian told rescuers that he had missed his mother, but had firmly believed he would be saved.

Rescuers said that Tian was trapped in a tiny space made by a wall that had fallen over but not crumbled.

Tian was not seriously injured, but his foot was stuck beneath a door.

Tian was taken to the Guangming New Area Central Hospital at 6:45 a.m. yesterday and transferred to the inpatient department following surgery in the hospital’s emergency department.

Doctors said Tian was in good condition. In the hospital, he is staying with several other people who were injured in the landslide.
