THE sixth Chinese-built hydropower plant went into operation in Koh Kong, Cambodia yesterday after five years of construction.
The 246-megawatt Tatay River Hydropower Plant was developed by the China National Heavy Machinery Corporation at a cost of US$540 million under a contract of a 42-year build-operate-transfer (BOT) with the Cambodian Government.
According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Chinese firms have invested over US$1.6 billion to build six dams with a combined capacity of 928 MW in the Southeast Asian nation.
To date, all of them are fully operational.(Xinhua)
