Every cloud has a silver lining
     2015-December-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    这个短语的字面解释是“乌云也有银色衬里”,这是什么意思呢?请看对话:

A: Graduation is just a few months away, but I haven’t found a job. If I cannot find a job in the same city as my girlfriend, it’s very likely that we will part ways.

B: Every cloud has a silver lining. Perhaps you can take a year off and figure out what you really want from life.

Note: This sentence means “Every bad situation has some good aspect to it.” The proverb is usually said as an encouragement to a person who is overcome by some difficulty and is unable to see any positive way forward. John Milton coined the phrase “silver lining” in “Comus: A Mask Presented at Ludlow Castle,” 1634. But it isn’t until the days of Victoria’s England that we begin to hear the proverbial form that we are now familiar with.
