Johnny Depp named most overpaid actor of 20
     2015-December-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

JOHNNY DEPP has been named the most overpaid actor of 2015. According to Forbes, his recent films “Mortdecai” and “Transcendence” returned a mere US$1.2 for every US$1 he was paid.

Adam Sandler previously held the title for the last two years, but he was deemed ineligible due to his current Netflix deal. Depp, 52, was second on 2014’s list. This year, it’s Denzel Washington who was crowned runner-up. The “Equalizer” star’s return on investment was US$6.5 for every US$1 he was paid.

According to Forbes, Depp used to be able to rake in the dough. The last four “Pirates of the Caribbean” films grossed US$3.7 billion.

Depp’s film “Mortdecai,” which was released in January, earned a mere US$47 million and cost US$60 million to make. “Transcendence,” from 2014, also barely made back what it cost — US$100 million. “Black Mass” earned US$94.5 million.

In Depp’s defense, Forbes notes that his upcoming sequels “Alice Through the Looking Glass” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will likely score at the box office.

Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson and Will Smith round out Forbes’ top five most overpaid actors.
