Chinese saxophonist Li Gaoyang will collaborate with U.S. drummer Adam Nussbaum and Danish pianist Carl Winther for a jazz show.
Li has been lauded as the top jazz saxophone player by audiences and critics alike. Li has taken his groups to many large-scale events and jazz festivals. Li was also featured in some performances by Antonio Hart during his China tour. Through his acquaintance with the legendary Sonny Rollins, who is his biggest saxophone influence, Li has learned much from the maestro. Li has also learned from masters such as Bob Cranshaw, Sammy Figueroa and Peter Erskine.
The award-winning Winther has toured with such performers as Billy Hart, Jerry Bergonzi, Bill Evans and Daniel Humiar. His performances are breathtaking. He has strong improvisation skills and his compositions are precise and extravagant.
Nussbaum started to play drums at the age of 12 after studying piano for five years. He moved to New York City in 1975 to attend The Davis Center for Performing Arts at City College. While there he began working with Albert Dailey, Monty Waters, Joe Lee Wilson, Sheila Jordan and he played with Sonny Rollins in 1977 in Milwaukee.
