Taiwanese rocker Chang Chen-yue will collaborate with hip-hop band MJ116 and rapper MC HotDog for a show Jan. 16.
MC HotDog is known for his use of explicit lyrics in his songs. He is known for his two famous hits - “My Life” and “The Korean Invasion.” In 2001, his four mini-CDs sold over 220,000 copies. In 2004, he toured with Chang on the North American “Kill Kitty” tour. In 2006, MC HotDog released an album “Wake Up,” which contains hit song “I Love Taiwanese Girls.” The song is featured in a commercial for Kuang Chuan Tea Time. It sampled American R&B group The Spinners’s “I’ll Be Around.” The track won Best Karaoke Song at the 2007 HITO Radio Music Awards, presented by Taiwanese radio station Hit FM.
“Wake Up” was a critically acclaimed album as well as a commercial success, as it provided MC HotDog with crossover appeal. In 2008, MC HotDog released a new album called “Mr. Almost.”
Chang is a songwriter, singer and guitarist, and also a dance music DJ under the name DJ Orange. Chang is also the frontman of his band, Free Night, also known as Free9. On his LP “Useless Guy,” Chang crossed into hip-hop music in a collaboration with MC HotDog in the song “I Want Money.” They repeated the collaboration on Chang’s subsequent EP “Goodbye.” From 2008 to 2010, he was a member of Superband.
Chang is also an actor who has appeared in a number of films. His 1998 film “Connection by Fate,” directed by Wan Jen, was shown at the Venice Film Festival.
