A 53-YEAR-OLD woman tried to return to her hometown in Hunan Province from Shenzhen by walking along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway after she had an argument with her daughter-in-law, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported Thursday.
The woman, surnamed Zhou, was caught breaking into a fenced-off area around the rail track of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway near the Shenzhen East Railway Station in Buji, Longgang District, by a patrolling railway officer, surnamed Jiang, on Jan. 3. Zhou was emotional and said she would walk back to her hometown in Hunan by walking beside the railway track.
Jiang reported the case to the railway police. Later Zhou was persuaded to get off the track after police officers warned her about the danger of walking beside the tracks.
“Walking on a railway line with high-speed trains passing could cost you your life,” one officer told Zhou.
According to the police, Zhou came to Shenzhen from Hunan to take care of her grandchild for her son and daughter-in-law. The whole family live in an apartment in Bantian, Longgang District. Zhou argued with her daughter-in-law Jan. 3 and decided to walk along the railway back to Hunan.
Zhou agreed to return home, but couldn’t remember her home address in Shenzhen or the contact information for her son and daughter-in-law. The police called Zhou’s son, surnamed Xiang, after obtaining his phone number from the public security bureau where Zhou’s residency is registered. Xiang said they had been searching for Zhou for the afternoon and were about to call police.
At around 8 p.m. Jan. 3, Xiang arrived at the police station in Shenzhen East Railway Station with his wife and child. Xiang’s wife apologized to Zhou. (Zhang Yang)
