Adam Sandler, 'Fifty Shades' lead Razzies nominations
     2016-January-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ADAM SANDLER and “Fifty Shades of Grey” lead the nominations for the season’s most unwanted awards and are looking like strong favorites to pick a few Razzies with multiple noms.

Sandler, a veteran with several, almost too many to count, Razzie worst actor nominations, picks up another two with his performances in “The Cobbler” and “Pixels.” Joining the “Ridiculous Six” star in the worst actor category are pal Kevin James, Johnny Depp, Channing Tatum and Jamie Dornan from “Fifty Shades.”

“Fifty Shades” may have been a huge global box office success for Universal, guaranteeing sequels, but the film proved a bust with critics and saw it scoop six nominations for worst actor, worst actress for Dakota Johnson, worst director for Sam Taylor-Johnson, worst screenplay, worst screen combo and the coveted worst film prize.

Sandler’s “Pixels,” James’ “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2,” and “Jupiter Ascending” all picked up six nominations, with Fox’s epic box office flop “Fantastic Four” surprisingly getting off lightly with only five nominations.

Eddie Redmayne, tipped for an Oscar nomination for his role in “The Danish Girl,” is in contention for worst supporting actor for playing villain Balem Abrasax in “Jupiter Ascending.”

Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow gets a worst actress nod for comedy heist “Mortdecai” — with co-star Depp scoring two nominations, for worst actor and worst screen combo for his partnership with his glued-on moustache.

It isn’t all bad news for the nominees however, with the Razzie Redeemer Awards rewarding previous Golden Raspberry recipients who have gone on to do good work in the past year.

The Razzies are voted for by a committee of 900 members and the winners (or losers) will be announced Feb. 27, a day before the Oscars ceremony.
