医闹

    yīnào

    Meaning: "医" means "medical," and "闹" means to "make a fuss." This term refers to a unique Chinese phenomenon. Some people nose around for medical disputes and encourage the patient or their families to file a lawsuit against the hospital. They hire people to pretend to be the relatives of the patient during the legal procedure and claim part of the damage awarded. Some even attact doctors and nurses. We roughly translate the term as "medical dispute profiteers."

    Dozens of people who claimed to be her relatives gathered at the hospital wards, smashing stuff and chasing and beating doctors and nurses.
