    见光死

    jiànguāngsǐ

Meaning: The term can be literally translated as "killed by light." It is used to describe the unfortunate outcome of the first date between two people who have fallen in love after chatting on the Internet and/or on the phone without meeting in person. The romantic bubble often bursts when the two meet face to face in real life as delusion is dispelled by reality.

    Example

    A: 你见到朝思暮想的美女了吗?

Nǐ jiàndào zhāosī mùxiǎng de měinǚ le ma?

Have you met the belle you've been missing for a while?

    B: 我们约了在星巴克见面,但是见面没什么话说,彼此都很失望。

Wǒmen yuē le zài xīngbākè jiànmiàn, dànshì jiànmiàn méi shénme huà shuō, bǐcǐ dōu hěn shīwàng。

We had an appointment at the Starbucks, but we didn't have much to say when we actually met. We both were disappointed.

    A: 见光死一点也不奇怪。

    Jiànguāngsǐ yīdiǎn yě bù qíguài。

It's not surprising that people are disillusioned when they meet in person.
